As a Technical Officer, you will support teaching and research activities across medical and science laboratories. You will prepare and maintain laboratory and clinical spaces, coordinate laboratory set up, operate, test and calibrate equipment, and prepare reagents and samples to support practical classes and research activities.

 

You will provide hands on assistance during teaching sessions, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure facilities operate safely and efficiently. The role also includes managing stock control, purchasing and booking systems, maintaining resources, and ensuring compliance with Workplace Health and Safety protocols.

 

We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong technical expertise and experience in laboratory or clinical environments. Confident in liaising with staff and students, you will contribute to continuous improvement of technical operations and play a meaningful role in supporting student learning and academic outcomes at CQUniversity.

Position Requirements

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety requirements in laboratory or clinical environments.
  • Completion of a relevant degree, diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a science or technical field.
  • Strong technical skills, including operation, calibration and basic maintenance of scientific and clinical equipment.
  • Strong communication and consultation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with academic staff, students and stakeholders to coordinate laboratory activities.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and contribute to continuous improvement of systems and processes.
  • Medical Pathology laboratory experience, including Haematology, Biochemistry, Transfusion and Microbiology, will be highly regarded.
  • Ability to travel across campuses for Residential school support
  • This position requires availability across an extended span of hours (6:00 AM – 10:00 PM), Monday to Sunday, as specified in Clause 14.3 of the CQUniversity Enterprise Agreement. This span of hours is designed to accommodate technical and laboratory support during residential school block periods, which includes weekends. The applicable penalty rates apply as outlined in the Enterprise Agreement.
