As Associate Vice President (AVP), you will be the public face of CQUniversity in the North and Far North Queensland regions, representing the Vice-Chancellor and President in local forums and leading strategic growth initiatives. This influential leadership role will see you drive regional development, foster impactful partnerships and oversee campus operations in Cairns and Townsville.
With major developments on the horizon, this is a rare opportunity to lead during a transformational period for education, health and industry in Far North Queensland.
For Cairns, the centre of this change is CQUniversity’s new $87.5 million CBD campus, opening in 2028, the campus will deliver world-class teaching, research and industry innovation spaces. Designed to support up to students across a range of disciplines, including allied health, engineering and emerging sectors, with deep partnerships to address regional workforce shortages.
In Townsville, CQUniversity continues to build on its 10-year presence in the region, providing a strong foundation for strategic growth and regional impact. In this position, you will partner with education leaders, industry stakeholders, and community organisations to drive innovative programs, expand workforce development initiatives, and strengthen key collaborations.
By aligning educational pathways with emerging regional priorities, you will play a pivotal role in shaping long-term prosperity across the region.

Position Requirements
- Postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive leadership or business development experience.
- Proven expertise in community engagement, strategic delivery and partnership development, particularly in a regional context.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, creating high-performing teams and producing successful outcomes for all stakeholders.
- Knowledge of tertiary education, including both VET and higher education systems.
- Ability to travel across the region.
