CQUniversity’s Student Success Division is responsible for providing prompt, professional and effective student support for a range of programs and services, with the objective to support students in maintaining wellbeing and focus throughout their studies and achieving study success.
The Student Counselling and Wellbeing team acts as the first point of contact for students seeking support and assistance on a range of personal and academic related matters affecting their mental health and wellbeing and academic progress. Your role within the team will be pivotal in providing genuine, honest, and compassionate support for CQUniversity’s diverse student base.
As a Student Counsellor, you will provide counselling services to support students in working towards their study and personal goals and help to promote their health and wellbeing. You will promote retention and increase wellbeing and academic success through the provision of expert psycho/social/educational counselling, including diagnostic assessment, student workshops and group therapy programs and referrals to on-campus support or specialist community agencies.
Position Requirements
- A degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education. (Mandatory).
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency, Australian Association of Social Workers, or similar accrediting body, or working towards attaining such registration. (Mandatory).
- Knowledge of counselling theory and frameworks, mental health issues, and dealing with people negotiating transitional issues. (Essential).
- Clinical experience in counselling dealing with a wide range of issues and providing psychological intervention to people for a variety of backgrounds, ages, and cultures. (Essential).
- Knowledge of equity and social justice principles to increase participation, retention, and success of diverse group of students. (Essential).
- The ability to develop and implement proactive counselling and wellbeing programs.
