Are you a qualified solicitor or legal practitioner and have a strong background in contract law and/or research commercialisation with at least four years post admission legal experience and an unrestricted Practicing Certificate? As the key Legal Counsel for the Research Division you are responsible for providing high quality and timely legal advice regarding a range of matters including research consultancies, research grants and collaborations, scholarships, patents and licensing agreements arising from research outputs.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication and will be required to draft and negotiate contracts and agreements and provide advice to senior managers of the University. You will also be able to proactively identify any legal risks and make recommendations or advise solutions to mitigate risks for the University.
Position Requirements
- Demonstrated Knowledge and experience in intellectual property, contracts, corporate and commercial law, including drafting, negotiating, and advising on contracts and intellectual property matters within a university, research institute, research organisation or government environment.
- Demonstrated legal drafting skills, with a commitment to the use of 'plain' English, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, advise upon and resolve complex legal issues.
- Proven ability to manage a range of competing priorities, apply initiative and offer practical solutions to mitigate risks.
