The Safer Communities Unit at CQUniversity is a specialist team dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where all students can thrive. The Unit supports students experiencing complex or concerning behaviours and leads the University’s prevention, education, and response initiatives.

 

As a Response Coordinator, you’ll be a primary contact for students navigating complex behavioural, safety, and social challenges. Working closely with the Manager of Safer Communities, you will manage individual cases, coordinate referrals, develop safety and support plans, and escalate high-risk matters as needed.

You’ll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, build strong relationships across the University, and use best-practice systems to inform decision-making and case management.

Position Requirements

 

  • Full registration with Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA), Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or similar accrediting body; or working towards the equivalent to be completed within 12 months of starting this role.
  • A relevant degree with at least four years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional expertise.
  • Strong decision-making capability with the ability to assess risk, determine appropriate actions and escalate high-risk matters when required.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and client‑service skills, with the ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with diverse students, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in case management, coordinating support services, and connecting students with internal and external resources.
  • Proficient in the use of information systems, web browsers, email software, Microsoft suite of software, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Knowledge of equity, social justice and culturally responsive practices, including working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
