We’re seeking an experienced counselling professional to empower our students by providing therapeutic support and practical strategies to manage personal, academic, and psychosocial challenges. In this student-facing role, you’ll help individuals build resilience, strengthen motivation, and develop effective study habits and life skills to support their overall success and wellbeing.

 

Working within a collaborative team of Counsellors and supported by a wider Directorate that includes Wellbeing, Safer Communities, and Inclusion and Equity, you will deliver tailored counselling sessions, facilitate psycho-educational workshops, and lead wellbeing initiatives – with a particular focus on enhancing the student experience for our international cohort. You’ll also play an active role in orientation programs and events like University Mental Health Day and RUOK Day.

 

Your responsibilities will include conducting wellbeing assessments, coordinating referrals to on-campus and external services, and promoting early intervention through health promotion activities. In addition, you’ll consult with key stakeholders across academic and residential settings and contribute to a culture of inclusion, care, and student retention.

Position Requirements

 

  • Knowledge of counselling theory, psychological disorders, and working with individuals managing transitional issues. Clinical experience in counselling, including psychological intervention for diverse backgrounds, ages, and cultures.
  • High-level interpersonal skills, including strong oral, written, and online communication abilities.
  • Understanding and commitment to professional ethics.
  • Proven experience with cultural safety principles, particularly when working with diverse groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
  • A degree with at least four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in psychology, social work, counselling, or occupational therapy.
